On Thursday, authorities announced the conviction of a woman who had managed to sneak a gun into her holding cell at Newark Police Headquarters and attempted to hide it there.
According to a press release by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Talisha Arrington, a 34-year-old resident of Newark, has been convicted of second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.
According to the office, Arrington got into a dispute with another customer at a White Castle on Elizabeth Avenue in Newark on July 15, 2020, which led to his arrest. He was then taken to the police station on Clinton Avenue, where he was held in a holding cell.
The office has not disclosed any information regarding the incident that occurred at the fast-food restaurant. Unfortunately, a spokesperson was not available to provide further details.
According to investigators, the police found the gun she was attempting to hide in the cell and charged her with a crime.
Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Andreas A. Diakos stated that the conviction of the defendant is a reflection of their office’s dedication to holding accountable those who possess firearms unlawfully and attempt to obstruct justice. The jury saw through the defendant’s efforts to conceal the weapon and tamper with evidence and delivered a just verdict. Diakos further added that the calculated actions of the defendant did not go unnoticed and the community is now safer as a result of this conviction.
On September 30th, Arrington could be sentenced to as much as ten years in state prison.
