The University of Wisconsin (UW) Regents have officially approved a proposal to seek an extra $855 million in funding for the university in the upcoming two years.
The Regents have given their approval to President Jay Rothman’s budget proposal on Thursday.
According to Rothman, it is crucial to secure the necessary funds in order to grant employees an eight percent raise over the course of the next two years.
Furthermore, a portion of the funds will be designated to cover the expenses of students whose families earn an annual income of less than $55,000.
Republican lawmakers have shown a degree of openness to allocating a portion of the requested funds to the university. However, they maintain that any financial assistance must be accompanied by both budget cuts and reforms.
