A boy who had been reported missing was spotted by a TV news helicopter crew playing hooky on the roof of his New York City building, according to the TV station.
According to CBS News New York, a 9-year-old boy left his Brooklyn apartment at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday. However, he failed to attend school as expected.
The parents of the boy contacted the police, who issued a description of the missing child, including the orange tie he was wearing.
A helicopter from the CBS station was dispatched to the location, where reporter Dan Rice caught sight of the young boy on the rooftop of his family’s building.
“While circling around the building, my pilot Eric Ross and I noticed a person sitting in a chair on the rooftop. We decided to zoom in with the camera and to our surprise, it looked like the child who matched the description of the missing child,” Rice shared.
The station employees contacted the police, and the helicopter crew maintained a hovering position until they arrived.
“He simply gathers his computer and book bag and accompanies the police officers,” Rice recalled. “As they glance back at our helicopter, they give us an enthusiastic thumbs up and lead the child back to his parents.”
According to a neighbor, he was on the roof enjoying his morning coffee when he noticed the child playing with his iPad. However, at the time, he didn’t think much of it.
The Success Academy charter school chain, known for its distinctive orange tie uniforms, kicked off the school year on August 12th, well before the official start date of September 5th for most New York City public school students.
