Illinois State Police have announced that the southbound I-55 under I-94 has been closed as a result of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle and fatally injured early Sunday morning.
Traffic is being redirected to Martin Luther King Drive from southbound I-55. Drivers are encouraged to pursue alternative routes.
Troopers responded to the scene just before 5 a.m. Sunday in response to a report of a car-versus-pedestrian incident, according to preliminary information from ISP. The white Nissan sedan struck the pedestrian, and then it fled, according to ISP. The pedestrian was declared deceased at the site.
