A 19-year-old named Kyleigh Guzman has been sentenced to over 12 years behind bars for pleading guilty to the shooting of 25-year-old Jarod Rogers in 2022.
Guzman faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery. As per court records, all other charges have been dropped.
Four other teenagers have been charged in connection to the death of Rogers. The individuals facing charges are Sabrina Clark, Roger Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez-Prado, and Fernando Reyes-Lara. Each of them is between the ages of 19 and 20.
Officers in Shawnee, Kansas responded to a welfare check on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, around 6:30 p.m. The incident took place in a parking lot near Johnson Drive and Nieman Road, as reported earlier.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Rogers with a gunshot wound and promptly transported him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
On December 1, 2022, law enforcement agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, Olathe Police Department, and Shawnee Police Department, were actively engaged in a pursuit related to the shooting incident.
On Friday, December 2, 2022, the Shawnee police received information that one individual related to the shooting had surrendered to the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department. Additionally, another person was apprehended. Later in the day, the police confirmed the arrest of all five suspects involved.
