“A Black man approached a woman who was walking on Ferry Street near Union Street at 6:10 a.m. and snatched her purse,” stated Fritz Fragé, the Director of Public Safety for Newark.
The suspect dragged the woman into the street while she was in the process of removing her purse, causing her to fall and sustain injuries, according to Fragé. Fragé stated that she was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
Fragé claimed that a second suspect brandished a handgun at a witness who attempted to intervene. Fragé stated that both suspects escaped in a black Mazda SUV at the intersection of Union Street and Ferry Street.
The initial suspect is described as having a dark complexion and a slender build. He donned a black sweat jacket, trousers, and black and white sneakers. Fragé stated… Fragé also described the second suspect as a thin, Black man with a dark complexion, who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts with trousers underneath, and white sneakers.
