Mark Musella, the Bergen County Prosecutor, announced that Chun, 42, of South Hackensack, was apprehended on Monday, July 22, on a variety of offenses that originated from numerous assaults on a woman in Hasbrouck Heights between 2019 and 2023.
According to the criminal complaint obtained, Chun choked the woman on Nov. 25, 2021; attempted to punch her in December 2022, and then again while she was holding a child; attempted to push and pick up a couch while the victim was laying on it; and, while the victim was holding an infant, he ripped out a kitchen faucet and threw the hose at her.
During an argument, Chun also aggressively ran down the stairs while telling the victim, “I’m going to throw this f—ing kid at you,” according to police documents.
The affidavit alleges that Chun struck the victim’s head on the ground in April 2023. He hurled a table down a flight of stairs on the same day, and it landed in close proximity to a child, according to the affidavit.
On Monday, July 22, Chun was apprehended and charged with five counts of second-degree aggravated assault, one count of second-degree aggravated assault, one count of third-degree aggravated assault, one count of fourth-degree aggravated assault, seven counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of third-degree terroristic threats, one count of third-degree terroristic threats, and one count of criminal mischief, a disorderly persons offense.
Chun was remanded to the Bergen County Jail for his initial appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
Chun was placed on administrative leave in August of last year after being charged with simple assault, according to NorthJersey.com. He subsequently filed a lawsuit against Palisades Park and its police superintendent, alleging retaliation.
