An off-duty police officer in Texas City, Texas, shot a suspect after a physical altercation at a Buc-ees on August 9, 2024.
The incident took place at the Buc-ees store located at 6201 Gulf Freeway, where the officer was working as a security personnel. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Conner Williams from Texas City, resisted the officer’s attempt to detain him for shoplifting. Initially, the officer tried using less lethal weapons to subdue Williams but was unsuccessful.
During the struggle, the officer switched to his service weapon and fired one round, injuring Williams with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Williams was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and was later released on August 14, 2024.
Following his release, Williams was arrested and transported to the Galveston County Jail. He now faces charges of attempting to take a weapon from an officer, which is a state jail felony with a bond set at $50,000, as well as resisting arrest, a misdemeanor with a bond set at $7,500, according to the Texas Rangers.
