The court has sentenced a man from North Jersey who committed the heinous crime of raping a woman in a recently opened parking garage at Newark Airport.
On Friday, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel reported that Thomassal Watkins received an 18-year prison sentence from a Union County judge. Watkins will have to serve more than 15 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.
At the Conrac Parking Garage, which is adjacent to Terminal A at Newark Airport, a man from West New York allegedly attacked a woman on January 18, 2023. According to officials, the incident occurred around 9 p.m.

According to the victim, she was on her way to her car when Watkins suddenly attacked her. She immediately contacted Port Authority police and within minutes, officers located Watkins in the vicinity.
The inauguration of Terminal A and Conrac Parking Garage took place on January 12, 2023, a mere six days before the traumatic incident of nighttime sexual assault.
As part of the new terminal project, a colossal parking garage boasting 2,700 spots was constructed at a staggering cost of $400 million.
The parking garage may bear the name of Conrac Solutions, but it is important to note that the security operations are not within their purview. Instead, it is the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that oversees this aspect of the facility.
According to Lenis Valens, a spokesperson, the garage was outfitted with emergency phones, CCTV cameras, and ample lighting in response to the attack that occurred.
