A tragic incident unfolded as a 29-year-old woman lost her life while being transported to the hospital. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) reported that the other four women who were also in the vehicle received medical attention at the scene for their gunshot wounds.
Five women were injured in a shooting incident that occurred overnight in New Orleans, resulting in the unfortunate death of one of them, as reported by NOPD.
The chaotic scene in Mid-City woke up the neighbors around 2:30 a.m.
Rebecca King recounted the terrifying moment when she heard around 4-6 gunshots. Startled by the commotion, she quickly made her way to the front door. The sound of screaming and crying filled the air as she stepped outside, only to be met with the sight of an overturned vehicle.
According to witnesses, the car on Solomon Street lost control and collided with a fire hydrant at the intersection of Solomon and Baudin.
King recalled the chaotic scene, with people screaming that she had passed away.
According to a neighbor who was present at the scene, he helped rescue the driver from the car and transferred them to another vehicle for transportation to UMC.
Police have reported that the woman, aged 29, was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
According to the NOPD, medical assistance was provided on-site to the four other women who had sustained gunshot wounds in the incident.
While eavesdropping, King caught snippets of the conversation between the women and the authorities regarding the events leading up to the crash.
“They were returning from the Shamrock, and this served as a detour to avoid a confrontation. They were being followed,” explained King.
There was a confrontation between two parties at a business in the 4100 Block of South Carrollton Avenue, as confirmed by the NOPD.
According to police, the gunman immediately opened fire as the woman departed the scene.
Residents living near the intersection of Solomon and Baudin have reported that they did not witness the shooter or the vehicle involved in the incident.
On Sunday, the Sewerage and Water Board crews successfully repaired the fire hydrant.
The car got towed away and the damages got fixed, but the reminders of what happened still remain.
“We feel a bit uneasy because we prefer a peaceful and quiet environment in our neighborhood. We have worked hard to maintain a pleasant and cozy atmosphere here,” expressed King.
