The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is transferring approximately 1,600 acres of land along the Missouri River to the Nebraska Winnebago Tribe.
The Woodbury County, Iowa-based Winnebago Bend Wildlife Area will be incorporated into the Winnebago reservation. It encompasses most of Snyder Bend Wildlife Area’s waterfowl habitat.
There will be signage indicating that it is no longer accessible to the general public. Last month, a unanimous vote in Congress approved Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska’s plan to return it to the tribe.
