After being abducted from a neighboring state, a six-year-old is now secure.
Police Chief Brian Myers informs WLBT 3 On Your Side that the Mississippi Highway Patrol informed Ridgeland PD dispatch of a potential custodial abduction in Louisiana that may be approaching its jurisdiction.
A Ridgeland officer located a vehicle that matched the description provided by MHP, according to the chief. He then awaited assistance from other units in order to prevent a pursuit.
The 6-year-old child was retrieved after the vehicle was halted on I-55 North between Madison and Gluckstadt with the help of Madison PD.
Jerson Alonzo Antunez, the child’s father, was arrested at the age of 38.
The agency announced on Wednesday that Antununez was seeking to be removed from the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Department in Louisiana due to allegations of unlawfully harassing telephone communications.
The child is in excellent health and has been reunited with his mother, according to officials from the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Department. He is currently being held at the Madison County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to St. Bernard Parish.
