Since Beryl is already well to our east, an upper air disturbance will be passing over Iowa, increasing the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms developing throughout the day from the northwest.
Although the likelihood of severe weather is low, some storms may produce localized hail and strong gusts, with the majority of them keeping below the severe threshold. Around dusk, the likelihood of rain will decrease and we’ll start to dry out, preparing for a significant warm-up that lies ahead.
This weekend, the heat dome that has been anchored over the western United States will move. Over the remainder of the week, temperatures will rise, peaking on Friday at about 90 degrees and returning to the upper 80s. With dew points expected to reach the 60s and even the 70s throughout the weekend, the moisture content will also be increasing. When you combine that with the predicted highs of the 90s for Sunday and Monday, you have some extremely hot weather.
During these two days, the heat index will rise to between 105 and 110, which, if you’re not careful, might result in heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The hottest days will occur when we close out the weekend and begin the next week, but even Saturday will have heat index levels close to 100. It is imperative that you maintain adequate hydration and take periodic breaks from any outside pursuits. Tuesday and especially Wednesday should see a drop in temperature as a weak cold front is predicted to pass. It won’t be particularly spectacular, but it will disperse the harmful heat.
