Living in Iowa for almost four years has given me valuable insights into the Hawkeye State and its residents.
After a delightful meal at an Iowan’s home, you can always count on being sent back with a generous portion of leftovers neatly packed in Tupperware containers.
College sports fans are just as passionate and vocal about cheering for their teams as fans of professional sports franchises.
Iowans are enthusiastic about cycling, and they have a deep love for riding their bikes. It is worth mentioning that Iowa proudly hosts the world’s largest bike-touring event known as RAGBRAI.
America’s Longest Paved Trail Loop
After several decades of planning and development, the long-awaited Let’s Connect project has come to fruition. The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation proudly declared the successful completion of this ambitious endeavor.
According to a report from Iowa Public Radio, the “Let’s Connect” project successfully connected two bike trails, creating a single, expansive loop that now holds the distinction of being one of the longest paved bike trail loops in the United States.
The project concluded with the successful connection of the two trails, resulting in a sprawling loop that spans approximately 120 miles.
The High Trestle Trail, which spans 25 miles, originates in Woodward, Iowa. This converted rail-trail boasts an impressive structure consisting of 41 steel frames that support its path.
The Raccoon River Valley Trails were also included in this project. Situated near Jefferson, Iowa, this loop covers a total distance of 107.6 miles and typically takes around 32 hours to complete.
