Eyewitness News has obtained a distressing video that depicts a home health aide assaulting a 95-year-old woman in Harlem over the weekend.
On July 21, the woman who used a walker and required an oxygen tank received the services of a home health aide. However, during the visit, an incident occurred.
Michelle Mitchell, the granddaughter of the victim, expressed how traumatic the experience was for her. She stated, “It was a nightmare. It was horrific and easily one of the worst days of my life.”
While Mitchell was physically located in New Jersey, she was able to witness the ordeal as it occurred thanks to the cameras her family had installed in her grandma’s apartment. Watching the events unfold on her phone, she was able to stay informed and connected despite her physical distance.
Mitchell shared his disbelief, saying “It was surreal to me that someone could pummel another person as if they were in a fight.”
According to doctors, the victim is experiencing soreness and bruises, and is currently unable to raise her arms due to the severity of the attack. Furthermore, there are concerns regarding the possibility of blood clots developing as a result of the incident.
Medflyt at Home Health Care Agency had sent the worker to the home.
In a statement to Eyewitness News, the company mentioned that they are conducting an internal investigation in collaboration with the New York City Police Department, and are fully cooperating with the authorities.
Authorities are currently searching for the health aide worker, and no arrests have been made at this time.
