Two individuals have been charged with carjacking in Chicago after the police successfully located them by tracking an AirTag that was attached to the victim’s key fob.
According to a report by the Chicago Police Department (CPD), officers were dispatched to the 8300 block of South Exchange at around 8:13 p.m. on August 30 in response to a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, they discovered that a carjacking had occurred at the same location.
According to a statement from the Chicago Police Department, at the scene, they discovered a 37-year-old individual who claimed that his Audi Q7 SUV was stolen at gunpoint by carjackers in the 8100 block of South Escabana. Following the incident, he joined a 41-year-old woman in a different vehicle and together they began to chase after the carjackers.
According to the statement, the pursuit came to a halt when an individual in the hijacked SUV fired shots at the vehicle that was following them, causing a grazing wound on the woman’s shoulder.
Both of them are facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm. Additionally, Archie is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon. It is important to note that neither of them is alleged to have shot the woman or discharged a firearm.
Both of them were detained pending trial by Judge Shauna Boliker.
