A quick-thinking doorman with a flashlight stopped police who were searching for an attempted rapist on the Upper East Side.Hector Mateo, the doorman, expressed his desire to have done more to apprehend the attempted rapist.
“I didn’t chase after him. Instead, I rushed to assist the young girl who was lying on the floor, covered in blood, crying, and traumatized,” recounted Mateo.
Authorities are currently on the lookout for an individual who allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 19-year-old woman close to Gracie Mansion during the early hours of Saturday, specifically at 1 a.m.
Mateo jumped into action when other neighbors dialed 911. Armed with a flashlight, he bravely confronted the potential rapist while the doorman rushed to comfort the frightened young woman.
The doorman’s swift action has earned him praise from his neighbors, who are understandably concerned. They commend him for his heroic efforts.
Gabby Newman, a 20-year-old resident in doorman Mateo’s building, expressed her admiration for his incredible actions. “I wholeheartedly applaud him for what he did,” she said.
“It was terrifying, and I felt an immense sense of gratitude towards the doorman. They play a crucial role in the city,” Davis expressed, acknowledging the importance of these individuals.
The victim received medical treatment and observation at New York Presbyterian while at Cornell Medical Center. The Manhattan Special Victims Squad of the NYPD is currently investigating the incident.
