An elderly gentleman of 85 years old was hospitalized after an unprovoked attack while walking in Hell’s Kitchen. The attacker punched him in the head, causing severe injuries. The incident was reported to the authorities, and an investigation is underway.
The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of 400 W. 43rd Street and Ninth Avenue.
Juan Rivera expressed his heartbreak upon seeing the blood surrounding his grandfather on the floor. “Actually seeing him on the floor with all the blood around him – it was heartbreaking. You know, I have a granddad,” he said.
Kholikov expressed his shock, saying, “You know what else is shocking to me? Like a couple of weeks ago, someone was throwing rocks right here.”
According to him, someone was throwing rocks from the balcony of a building nearby, which ended up hitting a customer at a fruit stand in the neck.
“He adds that he simply wants to have a regular day. As a dedicated worker with over 10 years of experience, his main goal is to perform his job duties and provide excellent customer service.”
A multitude of people flooded the same street corner shortly after the man was punched, unaware that any one of them could have been the victim.
Manhattan resident Pam Gala shared that she spends most of her time alone with her baby and dog while her husband is at work. As a safety precaution, she carries mace with her.
Some people suggest that increasing police foot patrols and conducting a thorough examination of the area could be helpful.
The elderly individual was transported to Bellevue Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
