The sale of recalled candy, which has been linked to causing a fatal illness, is still ongoing in New York State, despite numerous hospitalizations reported.
Across the United States, including New York State, a California-based company’s candy is causing illnesses, and the FDA is still issuing warnings about it. The FDA advises that the products listed below should be destroyed if they are present in your household. Check out the names and corresponding photos of all the recalled items.
According to the FDA, 28 states including New York have reported that 69 individuals have fallen ill due to the consumption of these products.
Out of the total number of 69 individuals affected, 60 have required medical attention, while 36 of them had to be hospitalized. The FDA is currently looking into a case of one potentially related death.
According to the recall notice issued by the FDA, individuals who have consumed the recalled product have reported various symptoms. These symptoms include seizures, involuntary muscle contractions, and agitation, which are associated with central nervous system excitation. Loss of consciousness, confusion, and sleepiness are linked to central nervous system depression. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting have also been reported, along with cardiovascular involvement such as abnormal heart rates and hypertension.
Some stores are still selling the recalled products, which is causing concern for the FDA.
According to the FDA, Diamond Shruumz-brand products that were recalled are still available for purchase at various smoke and vape shops, as well as retailers that offer hemp-derived products like cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC). Despite the recall, the FDA is closely monitoring the situation to assess the success of the company’s recall initiative.
Toxic Levels of Muscimol
The FDA has reported that the affected products contain excessive levels of muscimol, which can be toxic to humans. As a result, individuals who have consumed these products have experienced a variety of hazardous symptoms.

According to the FDA, symptoms that are consistent with those observed in people who fell sick after consuming Diamond Shruumz products could potentially be caused by Muscimol. These symptoms include seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, confusion, loss of consciousness, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hypertension.
New Yorkers who have bought the product are advised to halt using it immediately and dispose of it.
