DES MOINES, Iowa — A Michigan firm allegedly buys phony Ozempic from an Iowa pharmacy.
A Washington County lawsuit claims that Smart Scripts supplied Central Pharmacy Management with fake Ozempic, a medication for diabetes that is frequently used to lose weight. An agent with the Food and Drug Administration informed the Michigan company that their purchased medications were counterfeit.
When CPM contacted Smart Scripts, they were told that they were trying to find a solution, but CPM claims they never heard back.
The Michigan-based business is suing on several counts, including fraud, carelessness, and breach of contract.
Smart Scripts interviewed with KCCI on Wednesday afternoon. According to a company representative, the pharmacy was only one of hundreds that fell for the fraudulent Ozempic, and the company is collaborating with the FDA to resolve the issue.
The business also stated that none of the goods were able to reach customers and that CPM and Smart Scripts are collaborating to find a solution.
