Authorities have apprehended a man from New Orleans who allegedly assaulted two women in City Park in the previous month.
About the recent sexual assault incident in the park, Christopher Spain, aged 19, has come forward and identified himself as the man captured in the video footage running from the scene. He was arrested last Saturday and charged with one count of sexual battery and one count of attempted sexual battery.
New Orleans police have filed documents in Criminal District Court stating that the park witnessed two assaults on June 14.
According to court records, Spain proceeded to approach another woman in the park an hour later. He approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks, which were underneath her dress.
After the video footage was released to the public, the man seen running from the first victim’s attack approached a Tulane officer and identified himself as the person in the bulletin still image. The man, identified as Spain, claimed that he was on the walking trail in City Park and remembered running from someone on a bicycle. Initially, he denied any physical contact with anyone, but later confessed to grabbing and touching the victim, as stated in the documents.
On Saturday, a bail of $35,000 was set for Spain.
