Officials have not yet informed the grieving families of three Chiefs fans, who were found frozen outside their friend’s home, about the cause of their loved ones’ death. Despite six long months, the families claim that they have been stonewalled by the authorities and left in the dark.
In January, three friends, David Harrington (37), Ricky Johnson (38), and Clayton McGeeney (36), were discovered deceased in the backyard of their friend Jordan Willis’ residence in Kansas City, Missouri, after spending time together watching a game.
According to a toxicology report, the three men had a combination of fentanyl, cocaine, and THC in their systems. However, despite almost six months passing, their families have not been officially informed of the cause of death. The medical examiner’s investigation concluded on January 31, as reported by Fox 4.
According to the examiner’s office, all three of the mentioned decedents have had their cause and manner of death determined. However, the cases are currently under suppression status and are not available for public release at this time.
According to a lawyer who is in close contact with the families, criminal charges may not be filed due to the prolonged period of time that has passed and the lack of communication between the police and Platte County prosecutors, as the authorities continue to investigate the deaths.
According to family members, they feel disregarded and left in the dark as they haven’t received any updates from the prosecutor’s office regarding the deaths, except for the confirmation that the investigation is not classified as a homicide.
Jim McGeeney, Clayton McGeeney’s uncle, expressed his frustration over the lack of accountability for the tragic death of his nephew and two of his friends.
According to the speaker, in case of a car explosion or a plane crash, the reasons behind the incident can be easily identified through investigation. However, when it comes to the death of three individuals, the authorities seem to be inactive, and no action is taken to uncover the truth. The speaker stresses that if there is any progress in the investigation, it must be shared with the public.
Families were just informed that the completion of the medical examiner’s reports, which had been causing a delay in the investigation, had been done for months, as reported by Fox 4.
Harrington’s mother, Jennifer Marquez, expressed her frustration with the lack of response she received throughout the entire ordeal. “I’ve been having a tough time getting anyone to answer me,” she stated.
On January 7, Johnson, Harrington, and McGeeney, along with an unidentified friend, gathered at Willis’ rental home to watch the Chiefs’ last regular season game against the Chargers. The group enjoyed the game together.
They were all enthusiastic supporters of the team, frequently spent time together, and had been close friends for many years.
Willis ignored the frantic attempts of the victims’ families to contact him for two days. They tried every possible means, including phone calls, Facebook messages, and even knocking on his door, but all their efforts were in vain.
According to the victims’ relatives, Willis greeted the police officers in his shorts while holding an empty wine glass. He stated that he had been at home for two days, sleeping with noise-canceling headphones on.
After Willis’ friends were discovered dead, the HIV scientist took the brave step of admitting himself into rehab for substance abuse. In addition to seeking help, he also made the decision to move out of his residence.
