A pit bull attacked and killed a young child in her own home in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
According to officials and reports, a blood-thirsty dog went after an 18-month-old girl who had wandered away from the teenager responsible for watching her inside a home on Second Avenue in Newark.
The toddler was quickly taken to University Hospital, but tragically, she did not survive her injuries. The Essex County prosecutor’s office stated that she had sustained “horrific and serious injuries from an apparent canine attack.”
Animal Control took the pit bull, along with another dog, from the residence.
According to ABC 7, detectives are currently investigating whether the other dog was also involved.
The brutal attack left the locals in a state of shock and disbelief.

The Essex County prosecutor’s office has confirmed that they are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the attack, according to a spokesperson.
