Prosecutors have given their approval for murder charges to be filed in relation to the tragic shootings that took the lives of four individuals on a CTA train on Monday morning. Rhanni Davis, aged 30, is scheduled to make an appearance in court for a detention hearing on Wednesday.
When the police arrived at the scene, the shooter had already fled. However, CTA security was able to identify a suspect through the surveillance footage of the transit system. Acting on the description provided by the CTA, Chicago police officers apprehended Davis at the California Pink Line station at 7 a.m. on Monday. It was reported that the CPD recovered a firearm during the arrest.
According to records from the Cook County court, Davis has been involved in five misdemeanor cases since 2012.
Davis faced a criminal trespass to a vehicle charge in Riverdale in November 2022. However, the case was dropped by prosecutors two months later. It is worth noting that Davis did not appear for the hearing regarding this charge.
In February 2021, Davis was charged with illegal firearm possession in the 3500 block of West 55th Street. However, in October 2021, prosecutors decided to drop the case.
According to records, Davis admitted guilt in September 2020 for disorderly conduct following his arrest outside the former Bloomingdale’s Home & Furniture store at 600 North Wabash during the looting spree on August 10. Judge Robert Kuzas imposed a one-day sentence.
In May 2014, the police apprehended Davis in Boystown using the alias James McDavis. Davis admitted to misdemeanor battery and successfully fulfilled his court supervision requirements.
Under the name James McDavis, Evanston police detained Davis in October 2012 for retail theft. According to records, Davis failed to attend court hearings, and the case remained active until it was eventually dropped by prosecutors after Bloomingdale’s arrest in 2020.
