Two individuals have been arrested following the implementation of a new ban on wearing face masks.
In a recent development, mask-wearing to conceal one’s identity in public has been prohibited by authorities in Nassau County.
According to Long Island lawmakers, the bill is a direct response to the increase in “anti-Semitic incidents, often carried out by individuals wearing masks.”
Wearing a mask is now considered a misdemeanor offense under the new bill. If caught with a mask, individuals may face up to $1,000 in fines and a maximum jail term of one year.
At the time of writing this, authorities in Nassau County have apprehended two individuals for wearing masks.
The authorities made their first arrest in Levittown on Sunday, August 25, shortly before 8 p.m.
The police were alerted to a man described as “suspicious” who was seen wearing all black and a mask to conceal his identity.

According to the police, an 18-year-old named Wesslin Omar Ramirez from Hicksville was observed exhibiting suspicious behavior. He was seen attempting to conceal a significant bulge in his waistband.
