The woman who was discovered lifeless near the French Quarter, with a head injury and a bite mark on her body, has been identified by the Orleans Parish coroner.
An unresponsive woman with head trauma and a bite mark on her abdomen was discovered in the 0-10 block of Esplanade Avenue around 8:16 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) initially classified the incident as an unclassified death after Emergency Medical Services (EMS) declared her dead at the scene.
On Thursday, August 22, the Orleans Parish coroner identified the woman as Patricia Fitzgerald, 44. Furthermore, the investigation has been reclassified as a homicide.
According to the coroner’s office, Fitzgerald’s cause of death was “blunt force injuries and manual strangulation.”
