Davenport police have confirmed that there has been a fatal shooting near the Skybridge in the early hours of Saturday. The victim has been identified as Mason Payne, a 23-year-old man, according to his grandmother, who reached out to TV 6 to confirm the tragic news.
Around 12:30 a.m., a report of gunfire was received by the police. They discovered Payne in the parking lot next to the Skybridge, with apparent gunshot wounds.
When TV6 crews arrived at the scene, they found the parking lot next to Davenport’s Skybridge filled with squad cars. Crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot as officers and forensic teams set up for the investigation.
River Drive was closed off by the police between Harrison Street and Brady Street while they conducted their investigation into the shooting incident.
An officer stood on the opposite side of the street from the main scene, diligently scouring the base of the Figge Art Museum with a flashlight to search for any potential evidence.
According to Payne’s grandmother, the police are currently searching for at least one suspect.
