According to court documents in Iowa, a woman from Moline was apprehended in Davenport for attempting to cash a counterfeit check.
The Davenport Police Department promptly responded to a call at Northwest Bank on May 17th regarding an individual attempting to cash a forged check. Tamara McCoy, a 45-year-old resident of Moline, has been charged with the theft and forgery of more than 149 checks spanning from September 12, 2023, to May 16 of this year, as stated in the criminal complaint. According to the complaint, McCoy made several attempts to cash these forged checks over the span of eight months. It is alleged that McCoy utilized stolen documents and assumed false identities to carry out these fraudulent transactions, thereby unlawfully benefiting from the money without the consent of the check owners.
On August 22, McCoy was apprehended and placed under arrest for forgery charges. She was then taken to the Scott County Jail for processing. However, she was able to secure her release the following morning through bond. According to court records, she is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on September 12 to address the charges.
