The police in Kansas City are currently investigating a fatal shooting incident that took place outside a Walmart store in the Northland area. The shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m. on North Boardwalk Avenue. The victim, identified as 71-year-old Ronald Barnett, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but was sadly pronounced dead. According to the initial investigation, the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute that occurred in the store’s parking lot. Luckily, a suspect was apprehended not far from the scene. Sergeant Phil DiMartino expressed his concern about such incidents, stating, “Some of these things can be avoided and prevented. I can’t think of anything that justifies using a firearm and taking someone’s life, while also putting your own life at risk.” Currently, authorities are interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and examining surveillance footage to gather more information. The tragic incident took place shortly after 4:15 p.m. on North Boardwalk Avenue in the 8600 block.
According to the Kansas City police, Ronald Barnett, a 71-year-old man, was quickly taken to a nearby hospital after being identified as the victim. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to preliminary findings, the shooting incident ensued after a heated argument in the parking lot. Law enforcement promptly apprehended a suspect who was found nearby.
Sgt. Phil DiMartino emphasized the importance of avoiding and preventing certain situations, stating, “There are many things that can be avoided and prevented. I don’t believe there are many things worth resorting to the use of a firearm, which can end someone’s life and put your own life at risk.”
Authorities are currently conducting interviews with witnesses, gathering evidence, and examining surveillance footage.
