The Liberty Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspects who they suspect may be involved in the larceny of Stanley travel mugs and cups from local retailers.
“They were observed exiting a variety of retail establishments in a black GMC Acadia.” The police department’s social media post regarding the suspects states, “They are the key figures in our most recent cases.” “It is time to conclude Stanley’s swipe.” “Stop stealing Stanleys.”
In the security video footage and photographs, African-American women are observed either selecting the most popular mugs from the shelves and perusing the store aisles, or rushing out of a retailer with a basket of items.

The social media post regarding the burglaries that occurred last week is one of numerous posts that the police have published regarding shoplifting. The city’s police department has been conducting heightened surveillance in shopping areas to combat thefts. The department frequently shares security footage or photographs of individuals of interest that they are attempting to identify, as well as those who have been recently apprehended on allegations of theft, on social media.
Police posted security footage of a larceny from the same area retailer that was seen in other security footage involving African-American suspects on Facebook on August 7. Donovan L. Lovingood, 29, of Raytown, was apprehended in connection with numerous retail burglaries, according to the police in that post. Lovingood was accused with felony theft by the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.
“Lovingood was the primary suspect in three distinct retail thefts that occurred throughout the city in the past few months,” according to Liberty police.
On August 13, Lovingood neglected to appear in Clay County Circuit Court regarding the allegation, as indicated by court records.
Additionally, on August 6, the police published photographs of seven additional suspects who had been recently apprehended or cited for alleged theft.
