Troy Police Chief Randall Barr made an official announcement on Monday regarding the arrest of Demetrius Williams, a Montgomery resident. The arrest is in connection to a recent motor vehicle theft in Troy.
The Troy Police Department received a report of a stolen motor vehicle on August 11 at 8:34 p.m. The stolen vehicle, a white Peterbilt semi-truck without a trailer, was quickly located by officers within 12 minutes of the call. The officers tried to stop the truck on Pike County Road 774, but the driver refused to comply and led the TPD officers on a pursuit. The pursuit continued into Montgomery County and eventually reached the City of Montgomery.
In the pursuit, TPD received assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery Police Department, and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Troopers. Eventually, the stolen truck was brought to a halt on Taylor Road near U.S. Highway 231 in Montgomery. The driver was then taken into custody without any further incident.
The driver involved in the incident has been identified as 52-year-old Leonardo Demetrius Williams, hailing from Montgomery. He was taken into custody and has been charged with two felonies – Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement and First Degree Theft of Property. After his arrest, Williams was taken to the Troy City Jail for processing before being transferred to the Pike County Jail. As of now, he is being held on a $10,000 bond.
The Troy Police Department expressed their gratitude to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery PD, and ALEA for their valuable assistance in this case. Chief Barr commended the excellent teamwork and cooperation displayed by multiple jurisdictions, which led to a successful resolution without any harm to law enforcement, other drivers, or the suspect involved.
