The state of Illinois has strict laws regarding firearm possession, specifically prohibiting certain individuals from owning firearms. Recently, the Illinois State Police conducted a monthly enforcement operation to ensure compliance with these laws. As a result of the operation, a total of 318 firearms were confiscated.
According to the Illinois State Police , certain individuals are prohibited from possessing firearms. Such individuals may include those who have a Firearms Restraining Order or Clear and Present Danger, or have been convicted of a crime.
Illinois State Police faced an enormous challenge when they had to confirm the compliance of 10,800 individuals who were classified as a clear and present danger. The project appeared to be quite daunting, but the law enforcement agency took it up with determination and diligence. They left no stone unturned in their effort to ensure that all the individuals were following the law.
Starting from June 24 and ending on July 19, the authorities conducted an enforcement detail. The team successfully conducted 192 details and ensured that 673 individuals were in compliance with the state law. As a result of their efforts, 318 firearms were transferred out of the possession of these individuals, according to the press release.
Sixteen local law enforcement agencies in Illinois have been provided with a total of $1 million by the Illinois State Police to aid them in the implementation of firearms compliance checks and enforcement.
According to Illinois State Police, firearm eligibility checks have prevented a staggering 139,000 unlawful attempts to obtain firearms. This highlights the importance of prevention being the best solution.
