In Paterson, New Jersey, a 75-year-old woman has reported being drugged and robbed of thousands of dollars. She expressed her ordeal to the authorities.
As Maria Ramos was returning from her doctor’s appointment on Tuesday, a woman approached her, requesting for directions.
According to Erica Suazo, the daughter of Ramos, “As soon as she turned around, the lady was right beside her with a sock on her shoulder. My mother doesn’t know what happened.”
According to Suazo, the lady had requested $10,000, but the branch only provided $5,000.
According to Suazo, the suspect brought her mother to another bank location. However, as soon as they got out of the cab, her mother regained consciousness.
Suazo recounted the distressing experience of a woman who was regaining consciousness and repeatedly asking “Why? Why? What? What am I doing here?” This left Suazo in tears, as she found the incident to be traumatic.
Ramos managed to escape.
According to Paterson City Council Member Luis Velez, vulnerable seniors are being targeted through this tactic.
According to him, the dust is applied to a cloth or towel, and then the individuals’ hands are moved around it, without their knowledge of being exposed to contaminated particles. “They put it on top of the people without them realizing that that is contaminated,” he explained.
Suazo expresses her gratitude for the safety of her mother.
“She could have been kidnapped,” she exclaimed, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
Suazo aims to spread awareness about the issue, despite the impact it has had on her mother’s sense of security.
She stated that the issue was not solely about money. Instead, it was about the experience she endured and the importance of raising awareness for others.
