Authorities have reported that a special education teacher has been charged with child endangerment for assaulting an 11-year-old student at school in West Orange.
Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens reported the arrest of Jaron Spicer, a 32-year-old resident of Bayonne, on July 16. Authorities have charged the teacher at Mt. Carmel Guild Academy in West Orange with second-degree child endangerment and simple assault following an incident that occurred on April 18th.
Stephens reported that the mother of an 11-year-old student went to the police a few days later and informed them about her son’s assault.
After being arrested, Spicer was brought to the Essex County jail. However, he was later released and is currently awaiting his court appearance. The photo above shows Zaire Smith being restrained on April 18, 2024.
In an interview, Zaire Smith, who is a student, revealed that the 11-year-old victim suffered bruises and a rug burn on his face as a result of the assault.
According to their website, Mt. Carmel Guild Academy caters to students who have been diagnosed with ADD-ADHD, autism, and other behavioral and psychological conditions.
According to Smith’s family, he was taken to a separate room after becoming emotional in class. Smith has ADHD and autism, and his emotional outbursts were likely due to these conditions.
